Class Action Extravaganza!

Tis the season for county fairs, fall festivals, and class action lawsuits.  The first two come as no surprise, but in the past two weeks I've been invited to participate in three class action cases.  I haven't seen this much class action since that day in high school Spanish when the teacher announced that the lesson would consist of learning the Macarena while eating chips and salsa.  It was quite an event!  I'll never forget Beckie Hanson -- she really knew how to dip her chips.  She was good.

Where was I?  Oh yeah, lawsuits.  First I got a card in the mail saying that I was automatically a part of a class action against the maker of a computer video card.  The claim is that it doesn't perform according to its listed specifications.  I'm not even sure I have the video card they're talking about.  If we win the lawsuit, I think I'm entitled to a new video card.  By then the computer will probably be obsolete, and it won't matter much any way.

Next I got an email saying I was part of a lawsuit against classmates.com.  The claim is that some customers were wrongly charged for a particular service.  Since I've never paid for anything at classmates.com, I don't expect much out of this one.

Then I received another email about a claim against ticketmaster.com.  Anyone who bought tickets to an event since 1999 and had them shipped by UPS might be entitled to some type of refund.

I wonder how these things get started.  I can't imagine someone filing a claim and hiring a lawyer to get their $3 shipping fee back from ticketmaster.  Is this really the most profitable use of their time?  Some guy out there must want his money back from a Ricky Martin concert he attended on May 21, 1999.  Dude, you gotta let it go!  Maybe Ricky's version of La Vida Loca didn't suit you, but have you listened to the Macarena lately?  You really need to move on.
