A Lost Scene From Seinfeld
Elaine walks into Jerry’s apartment and slams the door shut behind her.
Elaine: That’s it. I’ve had it with this city!
Jerry: What’s wrong with you?
Elaine: Today, at lunch, I stopped by that new Japanese Restaurant on 83rd St. You know the one, next to that Karate training school.
Jerry: Oh yeah. Actually I try to avoid that area. I’m always afraid somebody’s going to jump out and kick me.
Elaine: Yeah, anyway, the sign on the door says ‘Authentic Japanese Cuisine’, so I figure I’ll try it. I go inside. I get a table, and after the waiter takes my order, I’m sitting there watching all the Japanese cooks back in the kitchen. Well, I’m listening to what they’re saying and they’re speaking Spanish! Spanish, Jerry!
Jerry: So? What’s wrong with that?
Elaine: The sign said ‘Authentic’, Jerry. Au-then-tic. That’s like, … it’s like getting a taco wrapped in a kimono.
Jerry: (pauses) Huh? That makes no sense. Well, tell me, was the food any good?
Elaine: Yeah, the food was fine. But afterwards I felt like taking a siesta.
