Holmes
I have a confession to make. I’m a fan of the Sherlock Holmes Mysteries
on PBS. Yes, it's true. Even though 1980s British television usually
leaves much to be desired, once I start watching one of these
mysteries, I’m hooked on it until the end of the show. I've also
enjoyed reading (uh, I mean listening to the audiobooks of) the
original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle books. I suppose if it weren’t for
Sherlock Holmes, we wouldn’t have had Jessica Fletcher, Father Dowling,
Miss Marple, and Ben Matlock, and if you stretch the model a little,
you can even include Melinda Gordon, Columbo, and Perry Mason. With
over a hundred years of pop culture detectives to entertain us, it just
goes to show that good murder mysteries have fascinated us for
generations and can stand the test of time.
